Strong Beginnings for a Brighter Future

How children develop and experience the world from birth to age 5 sets the trajectory for their future. Children with healthy development and quality learning during these early years are more likely to: 1) graduate high school, 2) be socially, emotionally, and physically healthy, 3) build safe and productive relationships, and 4) have a higher earning potential in their later years. Children who lack quality development from birth to age 5 are at a higher risk of negative outcomes such as: 1) incarceration, 2) teen pregnancy, 3) dropping out of school, and 4) suffering a multitude of health problems. Research has proven the astounding economic return on investment in quality early childhood education: By promoting lifelong learning and success, and reducing negative outcomes and later remediation efforts, society gains up to $16 for every dollar invested in quality early childhood programs.
